Xlr Microphone
XLR Microphone, low to high impedence?

I have an xlr shotgun mic and a low to high impedence xlr to 3.5 stereo mini plug cable. The xlr mic has it's own battery power. When I used this setup on my Sony hdr-fx1 cacorder it worked wonderfully. But now on my canon rebel t2i I get lots of white noise and very very very low volume from everything the mic should be picking up. It's almost un disernable fron the white noise. Does this mean that the cable I need needs to have a different sort of wiring? Wayyyyyyy back I got a cable that did not work with the Sony camcorder because it was not low to high impedence(I don't recall what it was) is that what I need?

Thanks

I just looked at the specs:

Audio recording method
Linear PCM
(1) Internal monaural microphone
(2) External stereo microphone jack

* Recording level automatically adjusted.
* Sampling frequency: 48 KHz, Bits: 16 bit x 2 ch
* Compatible with a commercially-available external microphone with 3.5mm dia. stereo mini-jack.

That does not tell me too much other than it should work with a stereo mic with a 3.5mm male connector - the type that looks like a normal headphone connector. If your mic does not work with it, you might call Canon to see if they know of a mic that will work with that camera and get that one.
