what are OFC Speaker Cables?
I just recently baught a pack of guitar things on ebay.
I baught the pack purely because it had a guitar cable that i really wanted. It came with the cable, a pedal, an AC adapter and 2 ofc Speaker cables
I'm probably stupid for asking this but what are they for?
I believe that OFC stands for "oxygen free copper", but its possible it also means "optical fiber cable"... guitar, right? Then oxygen-free copper should be right.
I googled "ofc speaker cable truth" and came up with the following two websites, the first of which I'll quote from.
"Oxygen free copper (or OFC) supposedly means that there is no oxygen and therefore no copper oxide (which is a rectifier) in the cable, forming a myriad of micro-diodes that affect sound quality. The use of OFC cable is therefore supposed to improve the sound.
"... Try as I might (and many others before me), I have never been able to measure any distortion in any wire or cable. Even a length of solder (an alloy of tin and lead) introduces no distortion, despite the resin flux in the centre (and I do realise that this has nothing to do with anything - I just thought I'd include it 
. How about fencing wire - no, no distortion there either.
The concept of degradation caused by micro-diodes in metallic contacts has been bandied about for years, without a shred of evidence to support the claim that it is audible... "
Speaker cables are used to connect the power amplifier from your amp to your speaker(s), speaker box, cab, whatever. They are thicker, so that they are able to handle the wattage flowing through them. They are usually not appropriate for using with instruments, partly because I believe they aren't shielded.
