Buying a power amp: GemSound? American Audio? Pyle Pro? Or save for a Crown?
I'm looking into buying a power amp to compliment my 2 powered monitors for DJing side rooms/small clubs. I have some decent subs that I use for my car, which I'm going to connect to said power amp. I've been looking at a few stores online and I'm finding some really cheap gear which makes me believe it may be too good to be true. On the other hand, I could save up and go to the guitar center by me, and pick up a Crown XLS1000 for about $300. Is it worth saving up for the Crown, just based on the brand's reputation and the features it has? Or would I be better off just getting something cheap for the time being and upgrading when I actually start making money off of my gigs.
If you want the best "cheap" amp out there - get a Behringer. A Crown XLS1000 only puts out 215 watts into 8 ohms (for $300). For $330 you can get a Behringer EP4000 it puts out 550 watts into 8 ohms. These are very well made amps (I own three that have been in service for years). They are heavy (37 lbs) which is always a good sign. They sound great too. Keep in mind that ALL pro amps are made in China now (including Crown). You might as well get the most bang for your buck.
