What is the difference between pro tools on mac and pro tools on pc?
i want to no what the difference is becouse if i get the pro tools on pc i sace ALOT of money but if i ge tthe mac i need to buy one. people have told me that mac is beter for some reason..
For starters, Protools isn't Linux friendly, that'll be fantastic when they eventually do and I'm sure it can't be too far in the future.
There are several core arguments, first and foremost for most users is that the mac OS is more transparent, where Windows is more processor and memory intensive just to run in the background. That said, there are quite a number of ways to optimize windows machines to work more efficiently which allows for more DSP power within ProTools (PT). Running in Classic mode, turning off the internet, having a hard drive or partition that's only for PT, optimally having a separate boot of windows that's super streamlined for PT, no norton or other internet protection on, all animations off, etc. all make it easier to run DAWs like PT. The second reason is the audio/midi driver setup and troubleshooting; macs have a very easy to deal with audio/midi device setup that's very logical and easy through visuals, where PCs use ASIO drivers that have to be carefully installed and maintained which can be something of a pain in the neck since the interface has its own ASIO driver that has to supercede the computer's own and that can cause conflicts. When PT is open, it essentially owns all the hard drives, disk drives, and audio which windows can have problems with at times.
I personally run a mac, but I have a lot of friends that run PC versions quite successfully.
