what's the difference between an unpowered mixer and a powered mixer?
the term "powered mixer" means that it has outputs that can go directly to speakers. a normal mixer (not unpowered) has line level output that goes to an external power amplifier to feed a speaker, or its output goes to a "powered speaker" which has the amp built-in. some normal mixers don't even go to speakers, the line out is used for tape recording or radio broadcast and they have just headphones for monitoring.
