What kind of Firewire/Per-amp should I buy for my Home Studio?
Hi there,
I produce my own music on my home computer. I am currently running vista and have a X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Sound Card.
I need a pre-amp or firewire system (preferably external) that accomodates:
-Condenser Mic with XLR 3-Pin Connection (Phantom Power)
-Rokit Speaker with 1/4" input
optional -input for my 1/4" guitars pickup system
I really do not know to where to start looking. My budget is anywhere from $100-$1000. Any tips or advice would be awesome. Thank you for reading!
In my experience, the gamer sound cards simply do not work well for computer based music studios (although the specs on the sound blaster box would make you think otherwise).
I personally like M-Audio gear. I have an older M-Audio Firewire solo that I've had for a few years now and it has worked flawlessly for me over that time.
Now keep in mind that I just record myself with a microphone and guitar, so if you plan to record a band or multiple people at the same time then you might want to buy something with more inputs. But just for one person the Firewire solo is nice, xlr input with phantom power, and 1/4" jack for guitar cable input as well
