Idiom1: Cost a bundle
The dictionary says if you say something has cost you a bundle, you are saying that thing is really expensive.
Idiom2: argue down
the dictionary says argue someone down means to defeat them in a debate or to perform better than them in a debate so that your opinion will appear to be superior than others'
I want to ask native speakers, if these two idioms are still commonly used and readily understood?

1. Understandable, if a little old-fashioned sounding. More common is "cost me an arm and a leg."
2. Not common. If I heard it, I would not think it meant to perform better in a debate, but rather to bully someone into silence. What dictionary are you using??
