No sound coming from the Audio Technica AT2020 help?
Hello,
So my friend has recently bought the Audio Technica AT2020 microphone condenser. The problem is that as he has plugged it into the computer and there is no sound being picked up.
What could be the problem to this and how should it be fixed?

The AT2020 requires 48 volts of phanthom power which is normally provided by a professional grade mixer or a separate power injector. You would then need a matching transformer to convert the balanced XLR output to unbalanced. Without it, you would be shorting out the phantom supply if you merely tried to tie pins 1 and 3 together on the XLR. The microphone input on your computer uses a 3 section 3.5mm TRS (Tip, Ring, Sleeve) plug. You would be using only the tip (hot) and sleeve (ground) connections. Leave the ring connection unconnected. It's used to provide power to microphones that are usually used with computers.
